THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Malayalees consumed liquor worth Rs 116 crores on Uthradam day. This is the figure for alcohol sold through Bevco. Bevco MD says the figures released are not final and sales revenue is subject to change.
This time, Irinjalakuda had the highest sales. Liquor worth Rs 1.06 crore was sold in Irinjalakuda on Uthradam day. Liquor worth Rs 1.01 crore was sold through the Kollam Ashram outlet.
Precautions were also taken as record sales were expected in the state. Bevco had given strict instructions to the warehouse-out let managers not to cause any kind of difficulty to those who came to buy liquor.
The required liquor including popular brands should be procured from the warehouse. The stock should be displayed in the way customers see it. Special provisions were also made to promote digital money transactions. It was also suggested that employees should avoid taking leave during the Onam season as much as possible.
