KALAMASERRY: Sarojini, who was a family member with Congress background, became active in the Communist Party after her marriage with E Balanandan. She became a staunch Marxist and even reached the state committee of the CPM.

In 1962, E Balanandan was accused of being a Chinese spy. Sarojini was pregnant with the eldest child when the police surrounded Balanandan's house and arrested him. In 1964, Balanandan was again arrested. All this time, Sarojini used to raise cows and sell milk to support her household. In Kalamaseri Karapadam, there was cultivation in 65 cents. This helped to support the family when Balanandan was in jail and absconding.

Sarojini had said that the two ‘thalimalas’ at the time of the wedding and the twin banana were an unforgettable experience. The marriage was on September 1, 1957. Apart from the ‘thalimala’ bought by Balanandan's mother, his estranged father also brought the same as an inheritance. Both were used during the marriage.

T V Thomas and K R gauriamma, who were then ministers were also invited for a feast. T V Thomas gave fruit to the newlyweds. Sarojini got a twin banana. Seeing this Gauriamma took it and gave another fruit. It was said that if you eat twin fruit, you will have twins. Sarojini often recalled these interesting incidents.
