ALLEPPEY: Scooter passengers met a tragic end after Tata Sumo hit the electric scooter. Neelakandan Nair (79, veteran) and his wife Padmavati Amma(71), a resident of Karilakulangara KaruvattamKuzhy Maroor, have died. Vinod, a native of Pathiyoor, who was driving the Tata Sumo, was admitted to Alappuzha Medical College Hospital with injuries. The accident took place near the Pathiyoor temple on the Bhagavathipadi-Pathiyoor road around 8 am on Tuesday. The speeding Tata Sumo crashed into a nearby wall after hitting the scooter. Neelakandan Nair died on the spot. Padmavati Amma died while being taken to a private hospital in Thiruvalla. The Tata Sumo was taken into custody.

Neelakandan Nair also worked as security in KMML Chavara. Children: Anilkumar (Ex Service), Ambili (Chennai). Nephews: Bindu and Vipin J Nair. Neelakandan Nair is the elder brother of CPM Karilakulangara local committee member Senan Nair.
