NEW DELHI: The world's first fully ethanol-powered car that runs entirely on ethanol was unveiled in India. The car manufactured by Toyota was launched by Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari the other day. The company claims a mileage of 28 km in cities and 35 km on highways. The Bharat Stage 6 (BS6) compliant car will also run on electricity. There is also a four-cylinder petrol engine. The release date for the car has not been announced.

Speaking on the occasion, Gadkari said that this is part of the government's plan to promote environment-friendly vehicles. Ethanol is mainly produced from sugarcane, maize, and barley. If the use of ethanol becomes widespread, it will be a huge benefit to the farmers of the country.
