NEW DELHI: After the reduction in the price of domestic cooking gas cylinders, the price of commercial LPG cylinders has also been reduced. The cost of a 10 kg cylinder in Thiruvananthapuram will be reduced by Rs. 1558, bringing the new price to Rs 158. This price reduction is now in effect.
In the cabinet meeting held on the 29th of the last month, it was decided to decrease the price of domestic cooking gas cylinders by Rs. 200. Following this decision, the reduction in the price of commercial LPG cylinders has been announced. This price reduction became effective on August 30th. Presently, the price of a 14.2 kg cylinder in Delhi is Rs 1103 and it will be reduced to Rs 903. Those who are beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujwal Yojana currently receive a concession of Rs 200 per cylinder. Additionally, the newly announced discount will also be applicable. Consequently, BPL families will be able to acquire a cylinder for Rs. 703.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the cooking gas subsidy was abruptly withdrawn without prior notice. As a result, the price of a cylinder which used to be available for six hundred rupees surged to over one thousand rupees. Despite significant protests, the government is prepared to reduce the price, even if it's by a modest amount. The government has stated that 33 crore people will benefit from this new announcement. Furthermore, the Central Government has decided to provide 75 lakh new Ujwala Yojana connections.
