THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister of Electricity K Krishnankutty cleared the air saying the government may drop the idea of moving ahead with a power cut to compensate for the loss incurred in the sector.

“If everyone cooperates in reducing power consumption in the evenings, we can proceed without load shedding. Also, the rains should happen in Kerala very often” Minister told the media.

“The electricity board has demanded regulation. If consumption increases uncontrollably, there is no other option left but to adopt power cuts. Hopefully, such a scenario is far from consideration and there will be no need for regulation” The minister also said that more attention should be paid to the electricity production sector.

Yesterday, KSEB beseeched the public to reduce electricity consumption from 7 pm to 11 pm to avoid the situation of electricity regulation in the state. The availability of electricity in Kerala is paltry and it has made it pertinent for the government to move with regulation options.

KSEB also said in a statement that consumers should be prepared to limit their consumption as much as possible by not operating non-essential electrical appliances to avoid regulation.
