IRITTY: Police confirmed the death of the man at Aralam Farm as murder and arrested the relative and his wife who were the victim's neighbours. The deceased was identified as Raghu (31), a resident of Kalikeyam in Block 9 of the Tribal Rehabilitation Area. Aralam Inspector Arun Das arrested his maternal sister's son Prasad (38) and his wife Molly (34) in connection with the death.
Raghu died on the 22nd of last month while undergoing treatment. On June 4, around ten o'clock in the night, Raghu who was seriously injured and unconscious was admitted to Iritty and later to Kannur Medical College, Pariyaram. It was said that Raghu was drunk and got injured, but the statement of the nearby residents was against Prasad and his wife Molly. They gave a statement to the police that following an argument while drinking, both of them brutally beat Raghu and hit him on the head with a stone.
While the police were investigating the case, Raghu lost his ability to speak and died later. Police intensified their investigation after receiving the post-mortem report stating that the cause of death was a severe head injury. Meanwhile, Prasad and his wife Molly went into hiding. The suspects, who were absconding without using their mobile phones, were caught after a painstaking investigation.
