THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister PA Mohammed Riyas inaugurated the concluding session of the Onam week celebration that turned the capital city into a festive ground for a week. The Minister said that what made Onam's week-long celebration popular was the unity of the Malayalees and Kanakakkunnu, the main stage of the week-long celebration, was the face of religious harmony. The minister added that six crore rupees have been allocated for development including nightlife in Kanakakkunnu.
VK Prashant MLA was the President of the function. Ministers Veena George, GR Anil and Antony Raju were the chief guests. Film stars Shane Nigam, Neeraj Madhav and Antony Varghese were the special guests and added to the excitement. MLAs DK Murali, IB Satish, G Stephen, Corporation Deputy Mayor PK Raju, Tourism Director PB Nooh and others were also present.
Awards were also distributed on the stage to the media organizations that organized art programs at various venues in connection with the week-long celebration. After the closing session, the curtain fell on this year's entertainment with a musical night led by playback singer Harishankar at Nishagandi. A women's singari melam was staged at the Kanakakunnu entrance, Amma Orchestra's programme at the Suryakanti ground and Priya Akkot's Bharatanatyam at Nishagandi also caught the eyes. The music program performed by the Job Kurian Band at the Central Stadium and the Ragavallis Band at the Poojappura ground was also noteworthy.
