KOTTAYAM: After campaigning in the constituency for a month, the public campaign will come to an end at 6 pm today in Puthuppally. The fronts are in a competition to show their strength in the grand finale of election campaigning in the State – the Kalashakottu. All political leaders who are not voters of the Puthupally constituency will return from the constituency by evening today.
After the silent campaign tomorrow, Puthupally will move to the polling booth on the 5th. The counting of votes is on Sep 8.
The UDF hopes that the sympathy wave created by Oommen Chandy's death would give his son Chandy Oommen an easy walkover in Puthuppally with a record majority. At the end of the campaign, the Left Front managed to bring the constituency into a tight contest through squad work and family meetings. NDA is also confident that the situation will improve.
The campaigning heated up after leaders like Pinarayi Vijayan and AK Antony reached Puthuppally for the last round of campaigning. Yesterday's drizzle could not dampen the enthusiasm of the activists. Even the Union Ministers came down to visit houses seeking votes.
