NEW DELHI: Union Minister Anurag Thakur has hinted that the Modi government will complete its term, as controversy flares up in a special session of Parliament and in a country in an election move. The central government does not intend to postpone the general elections. The prime minister's wish is to serve the people until the end of his tenure. There are no plans to advance or delay assembly elections to coincide with the Lok Sabha elections. Propaganda about the general election timing is just speculation by the media.

In a country, before an election idea becomes law, a committee appointed by the central government will hold discussions with all parties. The Centre wants Congress Lok Sabha leader Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary to remain a part of the committee. Anurag Thakur said that the inclusion of the opposition voice shows the broad-heartedness of the Modi government.

Thakur was not ready to clarify what the agenda of the special meeting was. There will be important topics. He added that the Parliamentary Affairs Minister will release the agenda at the appropriate time.

Indications are that the committee headed by former President Ram Nath Kovind on ‘One Country, One Election’ will hold its first meeting this week. The leaders of 'India' have severely criticized the central government's swift action.

‘One country, one election’ idea is against the country. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that it is an attack on all states.

The Modi government is trying to take the democratic country towards dictatorship. The eight-member committee is just a gimmick. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge responded that it is to cut costs.

M K Stalin, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu opined, ‘There is a conspiracy behind the idea of ‘one country, one election.’ As former President Ram Nath Kovind should not interfere in political matters.’

Meeting of MPs

All India MPs will meet in Delhi tomorrow to discuss the strategies to be adopted in the special session of Parliament from September 18 to 22. The meeting will be held at Mallikarjun Kharge's residence. Congress Parliamentary Strategy Group meeting will also be held tomorrow, AICC General Secretary K C Venugopal informed.

President should intervene: CPI

CPI leader and Rajya Sabha MP Binoy Viswam has sent a letter to President Draupadi Murmu seeking the President's intervention in the special session of Parliament. There is no free time, question and answer time, etc. in the special meeting. The agenda has not been released. He also asked the President to intervene to protect the parliamentary system.
