BENGALURU: Dalit youths were hanged upside down and brutally beaten for theft in Telangana. The men were hanged upside down in a slaughterhouse for allegedly stealing sheep. Then a fire was started below them and they were brutally beaten. Three people were arrested in the incident. There was a huge protest after the footage of the incident went viral on social media.
The incident took place on Friday in Mandamarri town of Mancherial district. One of the accused, Komurajula Ramulu, complained that his goat could not be found and that he suspected Teja, a cattle herder, and his friend Chilumula Kiran. Both of them were called to the stables to inquire about it. When they arrived, Ramulu, his wife Swarupa and his gang tied them upside down and brutally tortured them. Police said that based on the complaint of Chilumula's wife, a case was registered under the SC/ST Act and three people were arrested.
Last day, a pregnant Dalit woman was attacked by a group of in-laws in Rajasthan.
A similar incident was reported in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra last week. Four Dalit youths were tied to a tree and brutally beaten up on charges of theft. A gang of six thrashed the youths for allegedly stealing a pigeon and a goat. A video of half-naked them being brutally beaten with sticks went viral. 20-year-old men were beaten up in Haregaon village.
