KOZHIKODE: The case against Grow Vasu, a human rights activist who protested in front of the Kozhikode Medical College mortuary against the police firing of Maoist leaders, will be considered on September 12. When the Kundamangalam court heard the case yesterday, four more witnesses were examined. The seventh witness U. Lalu Kundamangalam turned hostile before Judicial First Class Magistrate VP Abdul Sattar. With that, examination of other witnesses and consideration of the case was postponed to September 12. Grow Vasu, who came to the court yesterday, saluted the martyrs and the fighters of the Western Ghats and shouted slogans, when the police forcefully took him back to the jail.

Witness Lalu, a defector who runs a shop in the medical college premises, testified that he saw the demonstration on the road but did not see any traffic jam or identify those present. He has not given a statement to the police that he saw the traffic jam. Lalu informed the court that has not read out a statement written by police. The court clarified that a complaint can be filed if the police wrote down what was not said.

Witnesses P Minish, MV Jayashree and SI K Sivadasan of Medical College Police Station were also examined. Vasu informed that the witnesses will not be cross-examined. When Grow Vasu was arrested and produced on July 29 for an incident that took place in November 26, 2016, he was jailed as he was not ready to accept bail or plead guilty.
