THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: ISRO engaged in an orbit-raising maneuver on Tuesday by raising the solar probe Aditya-L1 orbit for a second time. The Earth-bound maneuver was completed at 2.30 a.m. on early Tuesday morning.
The spacecraft reached an elliptical orbit that is 282 km * 40,225 km away from Earth. The probe was launched on Saturday and it aims to travel 15 lakh kilometers to reach the first Lagrange Point. The orbit will be raised again at 2:30 a.m. on September 10. This is the second time that ISRO has raised the orbital lift of Aditya-L1.
ISRO will raise the orbit three more times. With that, Aditya-L1 will get out of the Earth's gravitational field. It will take a full 16 days to complete the process.
Aditya is expected to reach the first Lagrange Point after traveling for 125 days. The probe will station there and the aim is to observe the sun from a distance of 14.85 crore km from the station. The objective of the mission is to study the Sun's halo, solar thermal properties, energy waves, fluctuations of light rays, and dangerous rays.
Aditya is managed by ISRO from Mission Control Centers in Mauritius, Bengaluru, and Port Blair in Andaman.
