KASARGOD: Muslim League leader and district panchayat member Golden Abdul Rahman (46) has been arrested for attacking Manjeswaram SI P Anoob. Manjeswaram Inspector TP Rajish, who is investigating the case, arrested Abdul Rahman after it was found that he was with the gang that carried out the attack.

Abdul Rahman, who was produced in the Kasargod court, has been remanded for 14 days. The incident took place at around 12.30 am on Saturday. Abdul Rahman and other gang members had gathered near Hidayat Nagar in Uppala on Saturday night. In the meantime, SI Anoob and team, who were on night patrol, reached the spot and enquired why they gathered there during the night. A verbal argument soon broke out between the gang and the police. Following this, the gang attacked Anoob and another policeman. Anoob suffered a fracture in his right hand.

According to the police, the five-member group, including Abdul Rahman, attacked the SI and verbally abused him. Four people, including Rasheed and Afzal of Uppala, who were in the gang, are absconding. The accused has been charged under non-bailable sections for fatally wounding a police officer and obstructing the execution of official duties.

Meanwhile, Manjeswaram Youth League and MSF held a protest against the arrest of Golden Abdul Rahman. They alleged that the police were deliberately hunting the League on false charges.
