THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Meteorological Center has informed that the rains are likely to intensify in the state in the coming days. The warning of the Meteorological Department is following the formation of low pressure in the Bay of Bengal. The Meteorological Center has warned that heavy rains are likely to occur in isolated places up to Sept 9 in the state this month.

Monsoon will intensify in the northern districts also in the coming days. A yellow alert has been issued in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki and Ernakulam today following rain. A special alert has been issued tomorrow (Thursday) in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam and Thrissur and on Friday in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram and on Saturday in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram.

Meanwhile, the Central Meteorological Department has informed that there is a possibility of light rain at isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad in the next three hours.

Meantime, the National Center for Oceanography and Research has informed that there is a possibility of 1.6 to 2.0 meters high wave and storm surge on Kerala coast till 06-09-2023 at 11.30 pm. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Research Center has informed that there is a possibility of 1.5 to 2.0 meters high wave and storm surge along South Tamil Nadu coast till 06-09-2023 11.30 pm.


Fishermen and coastal residents should exercise caution in this situation. As rough seas are likely to intensify, people should stay away from the danger areas as per the instructions of the authorities. Avoid trips to the beach and activities at sea.
