LUCKNOW: In a distressing incident that occurred in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, an elderly woman was compelled to transport her son's lifeless body to the crematorium using a wheelbarrow. This heart-wrenching situation gained significant attention on social media when footage of the elderly woman's plight emerged. In the video, the woman could be seen not only carrying her deceased son but also appealing for financial assistance to perform his final rites.
The unfortunate individual, Raju, had battled alcohol addiction and was discovered lifeless near a liquor store last Tuesday. When Raju went missing, his mother and younger brother initiated a frantic search for him, which eventually led to the discovery of his lifeless body after a considerable amount of time. However, their attempts to secure transportation to the crematorium proved futile, despite their pleas for help from passersby. Left with no other option, the destitute family sought assistance at the nearest police station.
Sub-Inspector Amit Kumar Malik of the Meerut police department compassionately rallied support by collecting funds and aiding the grieving family in conducting the necessary posthumous rites. It's important to note that ambulance services are readily available at every hospital in the district, making this incident even more perplexing.
The family hails from Itawa district and had migrated to Meerut in search of wage labour opportunities. Following this distressing incident, Dr Akhilesh Mohan, the Chief Medical Officer of Meerut, promptly initiated an inquiry to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the unavailability of ambulance services when needed. Despite the availability of ambulances, this incident highlights the importance of a thorough investigation. Once the inquiry report is received, appropriate actions will be taken to ensure such unfortunate incidents do not recur.
