shah-rukh-khan-jawaan

Shah Rukh Khan is quite a relieved man these days. It was not long since the television channel made raucous hullabaloo pointing to his son’s arrest for holding banned drugs in a luxury cruise near the Gateway of India. However, the time has flown and it is 2023; King Khan's year with massive box office successes including Pathan and now, Jawan. If reports are to be believed, the movie is already cruising to Rs 100 crores on its opening day. But amidst the jubilance, there is something trending on Twitter that needs attention. It is the hashtag #Boycottjawan.

The controversy and the call for boycott have nothing to do with the star cast that includes SRK, Nayanthara, or the director Atlee Kumar. The rage is meant for another Tamilian, who is also the distributor of the movie in Tamil Nadu. The owner of Red Giant movies, Udhayanidhi Stalin.

Stalin Jr. was caught in a mire for his distasteful comments on eradicating Sanatana Dharma from India. Stalin Jr. equated the Sanatana Dharma to malaria and called for urgent steps from the masses to wipe out the culture of India, lest from Tamil Nadu. This was treated with backlash while some monks from Uttar Pradesh went overboard and announced a bounty for anyone who beheads Udhayanidhi Stalin.

Udhayanidhi Stalin is the son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and grandson of former Tamil Nadu CM M. Karunanidhi. Some people, aware of the distribution rights that the family holds, decided to rage on Twitter and created a mass boycott campaign, only targeting the incendiary comments of the TN minister.

The boycott trend has not slowed down but did little to stop the movie from turning into a massive success. Many people are still busy supporting the campaign while Jawan is all the way trudging to shattering records.
