THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The document registration procedure is going digital in Kerala. However, the government won’t hurry to completely stop the use of filing sheets and documents while conducting the registration. The move is sure to give relief to the more than 10,000 document writers residing in Kerala.

Filing sheets will turn redundant when the mutation of the property is done digitally on the same day of document registration. However, the government decided not to hurry with the process, as it would leave astray the thousands of document writers in Kerala. Also, the basic land records are hitherto kept in filing sheets so the government can’t expedite the process.

Various organizations from the document writers clique beseeched the government to not hurry with the digitalization drive, as they presage this to affect their livelihood.

The documents included in land registration deals are meant to be copied in full. This work of copying sheets is reserved only for document writers who have a manuscript license from the Registration Department. The price per sheet is Rs.10 inclusive of GST. A licensed document writer can issue a maximum of 200 sheets at a time.
