THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In the first three months after the increase in drinking water rates, the water authority has received an additional revenue of Rs 92 crore. This is the figure for the months of April, May and June.

The rate was increased by Rs 10 per thousand litres (one kilolitre) in February. A revenue of Rs 300 crores per annum is expected through the rate hike. However, the water authority is not diligent in collecting dues even when it receives additional revenue. The loss of the water authority so far is 5913 crores. 1352 crores should be collected from 29 divisions of the water authority across the state, including from government, households and large institutions. About 100 institutions, including the Government Law College, City Police Commissioner's Office, related offices, government hospitals, etc., have to pay their dues. There are government and private institutions that have not paid their dues since 1990.
