NEW DELHI: The 18th G20 Summit has started in Delhi. Meanwhile, the nameplate of the country placed in front of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is getting attention. The nameplate states the name of the country as 'Bharat'. Pictures and footage of the 'Bharat' name plate placed in front of Modi while delivering the inaugural address at the conference are going viral on social media.

The Prime Minister's name plate is being discussed amidst the controversy regarding naming the country Bharat. The controversies started when the invitation letter of the President came out earlier in the name of 'President of Bharat'. The matter became controversial when the letters sent from the Rashtrapati Bhavan in the name of President Draupadi Murmu, inviting the heads of state to participate in the G20 summit, were marked as 'President of Bharat'.

Later, in the official note of the Prime Minister's visit to Indonesia, the name of the country was also changed to Bharat. With the release of the Prime Minister's foreign tour document under the name of the Prime Minister of Bharat, the name change rumour has intensified. Although Article 1 of the Constitution mentions both names, the official name is India. The move is to amend this and change it to a single name of Bharat. The preface of the briefing document to the delegates attending the G20 Summit also has the title 'Bharat, Mother of Democracy'.Notably, the name of the G20 summit venue is Bharat Mandapam.
