THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The four-day assembly session, which resumes today will be a platform for heated political discussions. The opposition is buoyed by the resounding victory in Puthupally. The ruling party will arrive with the fatigue of a heavy defeat. Meanwhile, the CBI findings related to the solar case came out. The opposition will strongly raise this issue in the assembly today. In that case, the assembly is likely to be turbulent. Chandi Oommen, who will follow his father's footsteps and reach the Legislative Assembly, will also be sworn in today. The ninth session of the 15th Kerala Legislative Assembly has the distinction of witnessing the funeral procession of the father and the swearing in of the son who won the seat vacated due to his death. 14 bills are to be passed in four days.
CPM State Secretary M V Govindan's remark at the time of Puthupally by-election will intensify the attack by the opposition. The party secretary Govindan tried to roll over by raising the question of where the BJP votes went and the knee-jerk reaction that the LDF vote base was not shaken, but the opposition will come down with both orders in the assembly. The saintly title given to Oommen Chandy in the solar case will add to their strength. If Mathew Kuzhalnadan's lone battle was fought against the Chief Minister in the last assembly days, now it is possible that the opposition will take it up unitedly. The Chief Minister, who has been silent so far will also have to open his mouth to the opposition in these four days.
The findings of the ED in the Karuvannur bank fraud case are another issue that is bothering LDF. The bank fraud controversy started after a case was registered against KPCC president K Sudhakaran and opposition leader V D Satheesan. Former minister and member of the assembly A C Moideen will have to appear before the ED. Earlier, ED notice was issued to Moideen for questioning, but it was avoided on the grounds that he had to attend the Local Fund Accounts Committee. There is also concern that interrogation may lead to arrest. The much-discussed issue of noon meal in schools also bothers the government.
