Cruelty knows no bounds and sometimes it happens for the most puerile of reasons. It was this inhumanity that happened in Pulinkode near Poovachal last week. A tenth-grade student was run over by a car while he was returning home from a game of football.
At first, locals though shattered over the incident considered it as a case of accident death. But the CCTV visuals were a revelation. The car was seen stopped in the nearby premise and it pulled forward only when the child was crossing the road in a bicycle. One must acquire certain cojones to watch through the CCTV visuals.
The brutality was committed not by any stranger but by a distant family member of the child. The police initially filed a case under the non-culpable homicide section, but have now changed it and filed a case under the charge of murder. The accused is currently on the run.
It comes naturally for everyone to question about the reason for this heinous crime. According to family members, the accused recently urinated near a temple wall but was caught red-handed by the child. The child also informed the family about the accused often indulging in alcoholism.
These situations are common in most families where it may be snubbed as a hilarious incident or may be included in their future anecdotes. But, in this case, the issue brewed inside the mind of the accused and a heinous plan took shape. As soon as the family heard the heartbreaking news that the child had been hit by a car and died, they waited no time to make their suspicions public.
The wound over Adhishekar’s (15) loss will take its time to heal. Maybe it will forever stick with his bereaved family and teachers who have more than one story to tell about his cherubic nature.
Under no circumstances should the accused be allowed to escape by exploiting loopholes. There are many such incidents happening daily in the state where wealth becomes a tool for bullying anyone.
Arguments often escalate into confrontations and even abuse of women. The ego of the vehicle drivers is often the reason for the clashes on the roads. The untouchability that once existed in society has now made a reentry on roads. Drivers often get annoyed on the road and are not ready to allow space to other vehicles, because they fear it to destroy their one-upmanship or vanity. This intolerance is chaotic.
In the latest report received, the accused has been arrested by police near the Tamil Nadu border.
