TIRUR: Notable Mappilapattu singer Asma Kootai (51) has passed away. She died early yesterday while being treated at a private hospital in Thrissur due to diabetes.
Asma, who entered the world of music through her parents, was active in music concerts from the age of five. His father, Chavakad Kadarbhai, who was a prominent tabla player, and her mother, Aminabeevi, who was a singer, provided great encouragement. She captivated the hearts of the fans through many music programs at home and abroad.
She shared the stage with P Jayachandran, Marcos, Madhu Balakrishnan, Vidhu Pratap, VM Kutty, Peer Mohammad, Eranjoli Musa, Kannur Sharif, Feroze Babu and so on. She has also sung in the film Love FM.
She was in Qatar for a long time with her husband Bawa, who is also a tablaist. She was also active in Mappilapattu in Qatar. She was buried in the Kothaparam Ratheeb Juma Masjid Graveyard. Children: Shahnaz and Shamna.
