KOZHIKODE: A health alert has been issued in Kozhikode district after two unusual deaths due to fever were reported in the district. The Health Department took action on the suspicion that the deceased may have been infected with the Nipah. The two deaths were reported in a private hospital in Kozhikode. A relative of one of the deceased has also been admitted to the intensive care unit. A high-level meeting was held under the leadership of Health Minister Veena George to assess the situation.
The body fluids of the first deceased patient could not be sent for testing. As suspicion arose, samples from the second deceased patient were sent for testing. Nipah infection can be confirmed only after the results of these come.
The son of one of the deceased persons has sought treatment at a private hospital in the district after he showed symptoms. The child's samples were tested at Kozhikode Medical College. However. the result is yet to come out.
