KOZHIKODE: Nipah disease has been confirmed in two people who died unnaturally in Kozhikode. This was informed by Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya. Nipah was confirmed on the basis of test results from the Pune Virology Institute. In the background of the confirmed disease, the central health team will soon reach Kerala. Union Health Minister informed that the test results of the four suspected samples are awaited.

Both deaths occurred at a private hospital in Kozhikode. The samples were sent for testing after they showed Nipah symptoms. Three relatives of one of them are currently undergoing treatment in the hospital. Relatives of the deceased and health workers are still under observation. A high-level meeting was held yesterday in Thiruvananthapuram under the leadership of Health Minister Veena George as Nipah suspicions arose.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan informed that the Health Minister has reached Kozhikode and is coordinating the activities of the district. There is no cause for concern at present. Those who were in contact with the deceased are being traced and treated. Prevention and vigilance are essential. Chief Minister had requested everyone to cooperate with the prevention plan prepared by the health department.
