It is an indisputable fact that the biggest setback to the growth of independent India was the corruption of a section of bureaucrats and political parties. Corruption is the cancer that has affected India's development. These people make the very laws that are created to prevent corruption into the biggest opportunity for corruption.
The freedom we have won through the sacrifices of selfless people is being hijacked by corrupt people. Even though it is still going on, the people have identified the corrupt people to a large extent. Central investigation agencies have created an impression that the corrupt will be caught. There is an uncompromising stance against corruption from the side of the courts. This is the era when people fully believe that corrupt people should not sit in the seat of power and should lie in jail. Even if it is a political vendetta, the courts base the punishment on facts. Most people don't believe it. Yesterday there was an important decision from the Supreme Court in support of curbing corruption. The Supreme Court gave retrospective effect to its 2014 ruling that did not need the Centre's prior approval for the CBI to investigate corruption cases against central government employees. The decision is in a corruption case against officers above the Joint Secretary. A five-judge Constitution Bench headed by Justice SK Kaul gave retrospective effect to the 2014 judgment in the Subramanian Swamy case. So the judgment will apply to the cases before 2014. Even if the corruption is clear, if the investigating officer has to go to various offices to get permission for the investigation, the corrupt people will get the benefit.
The new decision of the Supreme Court took into account the fact that the former chief district medical officer of Delhi was arrested for accepting bribes, but the law required special permission to punish him. It is not common people who are corrupt here. They are vulnerable to corruption. Why give bureaucrats and politicians the protection of law which they do not have? Former Andhra Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has been arrested and jailed by the investigating agency in a corruption case. The Telugu Desam Party cannot save the leader's face by announcing strikes against this. The case should be dealt with legally. 3,300 crore was allocated during 2015-18 for centres of excellence implemented by Skill Development Corporation in Andhra. 371 crore has been set aside for technical training. But those who received this money did not provide training. Investigation revealed that the money was for fake companies. According to the investigating team, Naidu was the main mastermind and beneficiary of the scam. Naidu has the right to prove that he did not cheat. Those who eat salt must drink water.
