KOZHIKODE: Police have registered a case against a youth who posted on Facebook that the Nipah virus is a fake creation. A case under the IT Act has been registered against Anil Kumar, a resident of Chettiyamkandi, Koyilandy. The post on Facebook alleged that Nipa is a fake creation and that a big pharmaceutical company is behind it. After the post became controversial, Anil withdrew the post.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Veena George informed that an individual who had direct contact with a person who died due to Nipah was diagnosed today. A native of Cheruvannur under Kozhikode Corporation has been confirmed with Nipah.
Veena George stated that the patient's route map is being prepared and the number of people in the contact list will increase. The minister was meeting the media after the Nipah review meeting. Other ministers including A K Saseendran, Mohammad Riyas and Ahamed Devarkovil were also present.
The person diagnosed with Nipah came to the hospital as a bystander. The minister said that the person who is currently under treatment came to the hospital on August 30.
