NEW DELHI: Among sullen faces and tearful wails that reverberated in Mullanpur Dakha, martyr Manpreet Singh was laid to rest after his family paid last respects on Friday.
In a special tribute to his father, Manpreet Singh’s son adorned a camouflage Indian army uniform and gave a standing salute. The scene evoked slogans from the crowd while close family members tried hard to hold back their tears. Singh’s two-year-old daughter also came with a salute to her father. Many people thronged the house to bid farewell to the country’s hero.
Commanding Officer of 19 Rashtriya Rifles Colonel Manpreet Singh, Major Ashish Dhochak and Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Superintendent of Police Humayun Bhatt were killed while chasing terrorists in the forests of Kokornag on Wednesday.

Colonel Manpreet Singh, who was leading the group, opened fire on the terrorists. However, all three were shot dead in a strong attack from the hideout. Singh died while undergoing treatment in the hospital.
As per the latest report, the terrorists who led the attack have been identified. Their hideouts are currently being marked and the extremists will be neutralized soon, said the Indian army.
