CHENNAI: The Customs Department has registered a case against 113 of the 186 passengers on a flight for conspiring to smuggle gold and electronic equipment. Goods worth Rs 14 crore were seized from the passengers of the Oman Airlines flight which arrived from Muscat. The smugglers influenced the passengers by offering them chocolates and perfumes as commission.
All 186 people were detained and checked based on confidential information. 13 kg of gold was found hidden in underwear in different forms like biscuits, mixture and spring wires. The customs also found 120 iPhones, 84 Android phones, foreign cigarettes, saffron and laptops in secret compartments of suitcases and bags. All 113 people were released on bail.
