NEW DELHI: The meeting of the Congress working committee held in Hyderabad alleged that the country's constitution and federal system are facing challenges. The meeting also passed resolutions blaming the central government on issues, including the Manipur riots. The meeting condemned the constitutional reform, the One Country One Election move, and the new Election Commission Bill.

The economic situation of the country, political situation, and national security were discussed at the meeting yesterday. A resolution was passed paying tribute to the late former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. A wide working committee meeting, which will be attended by PCC presidents and legislative party leaders, will discuss assembly elections in five states, including Telangana, and Lok Sabha elections. A public meeting will also be organized in Hyderabad this evening. Leaders other than MPs will visit 119 assembly constituencies of Telangana tomorrow.

The working committee accused the Centre of hampering the developmental activities of the state governments. The Centre denied or reduced revenue to the state governments. Even though Karnataka agreed to pay the price of rice for its own scheme, the Food Corporation did not provide the rice as per the Centre's instructions. This is the first time in the country. The fund was also denied to flood-ravaged Himachal Pradesh. The funds were not given because the BJP lost in both states.

Senior leader P Chidambaram alleged that Prime Minister Modi was keeping silent on the situation in Manipur. The Prime Minister, who found time to visit countries and attend the ASEAN summit, did not spare two hours to visit Manipur.

Working committee members KC Venugopal, AK Antony, Shashi Tharoor, and invitees Ramesh Chennithala and Kodikkunnil Suresh attended the meeting from Kerala.
