KOCHI: Police said that two more Malayalees were involved in the case of killing and dumping of Jeff John Lewis (27), who went missing from Perumanoor, Ernakulam, in a deserted hilly area in North Goa. They will be arrested soon. It is also hinted that one of them may become an approver. Anil Chacko (28), a native of Kottayam Vellur, his cousin's son Stephin Thomas (24), and Vishnu TV (25), a native of Wayanad Vythiri, will be taken to Goa today for evidence collection.
The information about the co-accused was obtained when the accused in custody were questioned separately. Jeff had taken a loan of a huge sum from the main accused, Anil Chacko. It was not paid back. Anil was worried that Jeff, who knew that he was absconding after getting involved in cases, might reveal his details. It is reported that an argument over the same issue while drinking is what led to the murder. It is also indicated that the accused received local help.
Jeff John Lewis left home in November 2021. Police received crucial information regarding Jeff's disappearance at the end of last month while interrogating a person in a drug case. A special team was formed immediately and the investigation was intensified. The investigation focused on the phone number that Jeff spoke to most often and that led them to Anil. Later, the other two were arrested.
The murder took place in November 2021, the same day Jeff went missing. The investigation is progressing on the basis of the confession of the accused and circumstantial evidence.
