AMBALAPUZHA: A farmer committed suicide after getting distraught over not receiving the procurement price of paddy. Vandanam native K R Rajappan (88) is the deceased. Rajappan consumed dangerous pesticides used for crops and turned unconscious. Relatives rushed the senile to the hospital where he was declared dead.
Rajappan and his son Prakash lived an agrarian life, cultivating paddy on their three-acre plot. However, the father-son duo was shattered after they never received the price for the paddy given to the government during the month of April.
The government has not yet paid Rs 1,02,047 to Rajappan and Rs 55,054 to Prakash. Prakash is undergoing treatment for cancer. Meanwhile, Rajappan suffered physical discomfort last month due to low sodium and he turned frail ever since.
Rajappan couldn’t afford decent treatment because all the essential money was saved for his son's cancer treatment. In the meantime, to cut some slack, Rajappan tried selling his land but failed to reach a deal.
After the post-mortem, Rajappan's cremation was held at the house premises.
