THRISSUR: NIA busted terrorist groups' move to recruit and train ISIS module in Tamil Nadu.

As part of the investigation into the 2022 Coimbatore car blasts, the NIA conducted searches at locations where members were planned to be recruited. Searches were conducted at 22 places, including the Arabic college where Jamesha Mubin (28), who died in the blast, studied.

The NIA took over the case after the preliminary investigation revealed that Jamesha Mubin had links with ISIS. So far 13 people have been arrested in the case. The team raided three locations in Coimbatore, Chennai and one location in Thenkashi. The proof of their plan was obtained from here. The NIA recovered several digital devices, documents and Indian and foreign currencies. The NIA officials disclosed that a case has been registered in this regard under IPC Section 120B (criminal conspiracy), conspiracy to overthrow the government and illegal activity. The ISIS module was allegedly formed earlier this year.

Recruitment was done under the guise of Arabic classes at local learning centers. A campaign is also being conducted for this through social media platforms, WhatsApp and mobile applications like Telegram. The NIA has alleged that this ISIS-inspired group is involved in the propagation of the Khilafat ideology, which is against Indian secularism and democracy. The probe team also says that the Coimbatore car blast case of October 23, 2022 is a continuation of this.
