NEW DELHI: A new chapter in the history of Indian democracy has begun with the inauguration of the new Parliament building. After the joint meeting held in the central hall of the old Parliament building, MPs led by the Prime Minister reached the new building on foot. The Prime Minister announced that the old Parliament building will be called 'Samvidhan Sadan'.

Speaker Om Birla announced the commencement of the new Parliament Lok Sabha proceedings. The Speaker congratulated the Prime Minister on the construction of the new Parliament. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also spoke in the Lok Sabha. Modi said that today is a historic day. The Women's Reservation Bill will be introduced in the Lok Sabha today.

The construction of the parliament started on December 10, 2020, and was dedicated to the nation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 28, 2023. The Parliament building is part of the Central Vista complex. The cost is Rs 13,450 crore. Bimal Patel is the architect.
