MUNDAKAYAM: Panchayat has taken strict action in the incident of depositing plastic waste and liquor bottles in the bus waiting centre, which is relied upon by many people including students. Panchayat imposed a fine of Rs 2500 on MK Raju, a native of Kalaketty, who dumped garbage at the bus waiting area at Punchavayal Toddy Shop Junction. Initially, Raju was told to pay ten thousand rupees, but the amount was reduced considering his financial situation.

Members of the Kadamanthodu Navadarshana Club came in protest after a strong stench rose from the waiting area. The name and phone number of Raju were written on the wall along with the garbage, and the locals filed a complaint with the panchayat. Panchayat authorities reached the spot under the leadership of ward member Dileesh Divakaran and contacted Raju on the given phone number. Raju, who said that he decided to do this in protest against people throwing garbage at his land behind the waiting area, admitted the crime. The waiting centre was cleaned under the leadership of Navadarshana Club.
