NEDUMBASSERY: The baggage worth of more than Rs 12 lakh of well-known mentalist Fazil Basheer, lost during his journey to Dubai in an Air India flight, was recovered two days later. The baggage was found abandoned on Monday night in an empty cargo section of Air India in Dubai.
Fazil Basheer flew to Dubai on Air India Flight AI 933 from Nedumbassery at 11 am on September 16. He was to hold a stage show in Dubai on September 17 and Abu Dhabi on September 18. The baggage known as 'flight case' contained the modern equipment required for the show. When the flight arrived in Dubai, he did not get the baggage.
Air India employees of Kochi and Dubai accused each other. After receiving the CCTV footage of the baggage being loaded onto the plane from Kochi, it was found abandoned in the cargo section of Air India during a detailed inspection at the Dubai airport.
It was unloaded from the flight where Fazil Basheer was traveling but was not loaded in the cargo vehicle. The explanation given by the Air India staff is that the 'flight case' which was isolated was brought to the cargo by another employee.
Loss of lakhs, says Fazil Basheer
Fazil Basheer told 'Kerala Kaumudi' that he would take legal action against Air India after he had to cancel two stage shows due to the loss of baggage from the plane. A complaint has been filed with the Indian Embassy. The complaint is not resolved as the baggage has been received. How the baggage got into the cargo section should be investigated. Two stage shows had to be cancelled, including a show called Nilambur Sangamam which sold 1200 tickets. Fazil Basheer said that the airline should pay compensation for the loss he suffered.
