KANPUR: A five-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a seven-year-old boy in Uttar Pradesh's Dehat district on Sunday. The incident came to light after the girl's mother lodged a complaint. Officials informed that both the children have undergone tests. The mother of the girl child says that the incident happened when her daughter went to play.

Based on the complaint, a case was registered under sections 376 and POCSO. However, the police have sought legal advice on how to handle the incident as it is a case involving children. Such incidents involving children below the age of seven do not fall under the category of crime. "Further action will be taken only after receiving legal advice", Akbarpur Kotwali Police Inspector Satish Singh said.
