KOCHI: Mother Malliamma filed a complaint with the Chief Justice of the High Court regarding the appointment of special public prosecutors in the Attapadi Madhu murder case. Senior Advocate KP Satheesan was appointed as the Special Public Prosecutor and P V Jeevesh was also appointed by the government as an Additional Special Public Prosecutor. Malliamma lodged a complaint with the Chief Justice against the appointment of K P Satheesan. The demand is to appoint a lawyer with whom they have trust as a special prosecutor.
In the government's pursuit of imposing the maximum punishment on the accused, Additional DGP Adv Gratius Kuriakose is involved. Meanwhile, Malliamma approached the High Court requesting the appointment of a special prosecutor. Adv Jeevesh, Adv Rajesh M. Menon, Adv C K Radhakrishnan who appeared for the prosecution in the Mannarkkad court and others were proposed to be designated as special prosecutors. However, the government put forward the name of Adv. S Sreekumar. Subsequently, Adv Sreekumar withdrew his name from consideration and K P Satheesan's name was then taken into account. The government's stance is that the High Court should make a decision in this matter.
On February 22, 2018, a tribal youth named Madhu was fatally beaten by individuals accused of theft in Attapadi. The trial court sentenced 13 accused individuals to seven years of imprisonment. There is also an appeal filed by the defendants against this verdict in the High Court.
