THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With just two weeks left for the 122-day monsoon (Southwest Monsoon) to recede, the state has seen a drop of 38 percent rainfall so far. There is little hope for rain in the next few days. Monsoon started on June 1 and will come to a close on October 15.
In the beginning, there was concern that there would be less rain this time because of the heat on the sea floor. There was 60% less rain than what was expected in June. Nine percent in July. There was 87 percent less rain in August. The situation has improved this month. 33% more rain has been received so far.
The influence of the cyclonic circulation formed in the Arabian Sea off the coast of Karnataka will lead to rainfall in North Kerala for the next three days. All the districts are also likely to receive rain due to low pressure forming over the Bay of Bengal. Due to the presence of cyclonic circulation, westerly winds will intensify in the evening. Special caution should be taken in hilly areas.
There is another cyclonic circulation over the Tamil Nadu coast in southwest Bay of Bengal. Therefore, there is a possibility of rain with thunder and lightning at isolated places in Kerala till October 1.
