WASHINGTON: United States reiterated that India should cooperate with Canada in the investigation related to the murder of Khalistani leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has sought India's cooperation in the investigation. He raised the issue in a meeting with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.
US foreign officials said that the Nijjar issue came up again during the Antony Blinken-Jayashankar meeting. US had earlier asked India to cooperate with Canada's probe, but India rejected Canada's allegations and demanded concrete evidence.
Jaishankar, who attended the 78th session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in New York, reached Washington yesterday for diplomatic talks with US officials. He had earlier met with US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan. He went to the State Department headquarters and met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken afterwards.
