THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Electricity Regulatory Commission will not increase electricity rates in the state in the near future. According to the order of the Electricity Regulatory Commission, the current electricity tariff will remain in effect until the 31st of the following month. This decision has been made in response to requests from various stakeholders who have urged against raising the electricity rates.

Given the current power crisis, KSEB had requested an increase in the tariff by up to 41 paise per unit. The Regulatory Commission conducted a public hearing on this matter and subsequently decided not to raise the rates at this time.

Meanwhile, customers using Extra High-Tension power filed a case in the High Court challenging the proposed increase in electricity rates. The Electricity Regulatory Commission has opted to maintain the current tariff in light of the case's stay being lifted, setting the stage for a potential rate increase.
