NEW DELHI: Alcohol sales is one of the major industries that contribute to the country's income but there are days in India where liquor sales are not allowed. The days when the sale of alcohol is prohibited are commonly known as dry days.
All liquor shops and bars are closed on national holidays and festivals. A dry day is also observed to ensure the safety of people during such celebrations. There are mainly five dry days in the next month. Consumers should note that Dry Day may not apply to all parts of the country on the same day as holidays vary regionally.
October 2 will be a national holiday as part of Gandhi Jayanti. October 8 is Prohibition Week in Maharashtra. October 24 will be a holiday due to Dussehra. Bars will be closed on October 28 as part of Valmiki Jayanti. In Rajasthan, bars will be closed on October 30 on the occasion of Harijan Day.
Liquor shops across the country will be closed on national holidays. There are three main national holidays in India namely Republic Day, Independence Day and Gandhi Jayanti. At the same time, apart from Dry Day, there are states in India which have imposed liquor bans. The sale and purchase of alcohol is prohibited in these states. Gujarat, Bihar, Manipur and Mizoram. and Lakshadweep are liquor prohibition states.
