HANGZHOU: India added to their medal tally in the ongoing Asian Games here with Malayali athletes contributing. Malayali athlete M Sreeshankar won silver in long jump and Jinson Johnson won bronze in 1500m. Sreeshankar won the silver medal by jumping a distance of 8.19 meters in the long jump. Although his first jump was a foul, Sreeshankar finished the second and third attempts brilliantly and cleared a distance of 8.19 meters in the fourth attempt. The fifth attempt was a foul. China's Wang Jianan won the gold and Yuhao Shi won the bronze.
In 1500m, Malayali athlete Jinson Johnson won bronze. India's Ajay Kumar Saroj won the silver by finishing in 38.94 seconds. With this, India's total medal tally is now 51. Earlier, Avinash Zamble won gold in the 3000m steeplechase with a Games record.
In the shot put, Tajinderpal Singh won the gold medal with a throw of 20.36 meters. Adithi Ashok started India's medal hunt today by winning silver in the individual event in women's golf. In shooting, the team consisting of Rajeshwari Kumari, Preeti Rajak and Manisha Keer won silver in the trap team event. Soravar Singh Sandhu, Kainan Darius Chenai and Prithviraj Tondeman bagged India's first gold today in the men's trap team event. Kainan Darius won bronze in the individual event.
