PATHANAMTHITTA: Unaware of the depth of the waterlogging, a car got submerged in the railway underpass. The incident happened at Thiruvalla in Pathanamthitta. There were three people including an aged man in the car. They were recused miraculously by the locals.
The incident happened at 7 pm last evening. Krishnan Namboothiri, a resident of Thiruvanvandoor, his daughter and son-in-law were traveling in the car involved in the accident. The incident occurred on the Iruvallippara railway underpass on the Thirumoolapuram-Katod road connecting M C Road and T K Road. They were going to Kaviyur from Chengannur. The car drove ahead without realizing the depth of the waterlogging on the underpass. With this, the car got stuck in the water without being able to drive forward. Seeing the car switching off and submerged in water, the locals immediately started the rescue operations.
Presently there is about five feet of water in the underpass which receives water directly from Manimalayar. Due to this, the traffic is completely disrupted. The railway engineering department tried various ways to remove the waterlogging but failed.
