KOCHI: The ED investigation team approached the court against the shifting of the accused in the Karuvannur bank fraud case from Ernakulam Sub Jail to Kakkanad District Jail without permission. CPM leader PR Aravindakshan and former bank accountant CK Jills, who were arrested by the ED on September 26, were remanded to Ernakulam Sub Jail. The ED stated in the court that both of them were shifted to Kakkanad District Jail without informing them. The special court dealing with money laundering cases will hear the ED's complaint today.
As the remand period of the main accused P Sathish Kumar and PP Kiran expired, the ED produced them in the court yesterday seeking to extend their remand. It was at this stage that the ED's advocate brought the jail shifting of the accused to the court's attention. The court extended the remand of Sathish Kumar and Kiran till October 17. Sathish Kumar and Kiran are in the District Jail. The ED's counsel told the court that the ED was worried about keeping Sathish Kumar and Aravindakshan in the same jail as they are closely related. It is indicated that the ED will soon file an application seeking Arvindakshan's custody again. Meanwhile, the jail authorities clarified that the accused were shifted from the Ernakulam Sub Jail to Kakkanad District Jail as per the instructions of the jail DIG. The jail authorities may inform the court about this today.
