PATNA: The Nitish Kumar government in Bihar has released findings of its much-awaited caste survey. As per the report, OBCs and EBCs constitute a whopping 63 percent of the state's total population. Scheduled Castes constitute 19.7 percent and Scheduled Tribes 1.68 percent. The forward class constitutes 15.52 percent of the population. 36.01 percent of people belong to the backward class and 27.12 percent belong to the backward class.

The population of Bihar is 13.07 crore. Out of this, 63.12 percent of people belong to extremely backward and backward classes. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar stated that the government will take further steps, including raising the OBC reservation to 27 percent, after discussion with the allies. He said that the census will be beneficial for all sections and will be beneficial for the welfare of various sections of the society. The two-phase census began in January. The financial status of each family was also recorded in the census.
