KOCHI: Police have arrested a woman who stole the gold and mobile phone of a young astrologer, whom she met through Facebook, after sedating him with a drink mixed with sleeping pills. The arrested woman is Thrissur Mannuthi native Ansi (26). A young astrologer from Azheekal in Kollam was the victim of the fraud. The accused stole his 13 sovereigns of gold and a mobile phone worth Rs 30,000. The Elamakara police have intensified their investigation for the two co-accused.

The incident took place in a hotel room in Edappally. Ansi met the astrologer through Facebook. She introduced herself as 'Athira' and established a friendship with him by asking about the pooja and the offerings to get rid of bad luck. Later, she asked him to come to Kochi for a pooja for her friend. The astrologer and Ansi took the room pretending to be husband and wife. Later, Ansi sedated the astrologer by giving him a drink mixed with pills.

The police arrested Ansi during an investigation focused on the WhatsApp call made by her to the astrologer's mobile phone. The police have received information that the gang also robbed another astrologer, a native of Ernakulam. The police are likely to register another case in the incident.
