NEW DELHI: Former Lakshadweep MP Mohammad Faizal has moved to appeal in the Supreme Court against the notification issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat disqualifying him for the second time. Mohammad Faizal was disqualified when the Kerala High Court did not stay the verdict that he was guilty in the attempted murder case.

Mohammad Faizal is planning to file an appeal against the High Court verdict. The disqualification will continue unless a stay is obtained from the Supreme Court. The appeal seeks a stay of the conviction order. It is reported that Kapil Sibal will appear in the Supreme Court on behalf of Faizal.

Although the 2009 attempted murder case suspended the ten-year rigorous imprisonment sentence, the High Court refused to stay the verdict. Mohammad Faizal's petition was against the Kavaratti Sessions Court's verdict.

The High Court had stayed the verdict on January 25, but after the intervention of the Supreme Court, the decision was heard again. Though he was disqualified in January, he was reinstated as an MP on March 29.
