KOCHI: The Kerala High Court has ordered further investigation into the death of violinist Balabhaskar. The order was on the plea filed by his father K C Unni. The court has directed the CBI to complete the investigation in three months.
The crime branch and the CBI which had earlier conducted the investigation, found that his death was an accident. His father approached the high court demanding further investigation when they were about to submit the investigation report. The CBI has not clearly investigated everything. The investigation was carried out through certain conclusions. It has to be investigated whether there is a conspiracy in the incident. The plea said eyewitnesses had expressed doubts in this regard.
However, the CBI had earlier rejected the claim that there was a conspiracy behind the death of the violinist. The CBI team which investigated the incident had informed the high court about this. The CBI had come to the conclusion that the driver's negligence was the cause of the accident. The CBI also informed the high court that Arjun Narayanan, who was in the driver’s seat, was speeding at the time of the accident which led to his death.
Balabhaskar and his daughter died in the road accident that happened at Pallipuram near Thiruvananthapuram on September 25, 2019 while traveling from Thrissur to Thiruvananthapuram. However, Balabhaskar's parents claimed that it was a planned murder by a group including Prakash Thampy and Vishnu Somasundaram, accused in the gold smuggling case and friends of the violinist. There was even a dispute on who was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident.
The crime branch which investigated the case in the beginning concluded that Balabhaskar's death was an accident. The government left the case to the CBI considering his father's request for a CBI investigation after rejecting crime branch’s report. CBI’s final report affirmed the findings of the crime branch.
