PATHANAMTHITTA: Akhil Sajeev, the main accused in the appointment bribery case of the health department, has been arrested. A police team led by Pathanamthitta SP Ajith Kumar, arrested him from Theni where he was hiding. They reached the location first with the help of cyber experts but the accused had escaped. DySP Pathanamthitta said the accused was arrested based on the other information received.
Two financial fraud cases were registered against him in 2021 and 2022. He was brought to Pathanamthitta Police Station and is being questioned. The police had interrogated other accused having links with Akhil Sajeev. The police had earlier found that the mastermind of the fraud is Akhil. There are presently five cases against him.
Complainant Haridasan in his statement to the police said Akhil Sajeev told him that will pay money to Akhil Mathew, a personal staff of the health minister for the appointment of a homeo doctor. Haridasan reached Thiruvananthapuram on April 9 as no appointment was made even after paying the advance amount. Haridasan said that he met Akhil Mathew outside the Secretariat the next day and told him that he had paid Rs one lakh. Akhil Sajeev once showed Akhil Mathew's photo to Haridasan. Haridasan is not sure whether the person he met was Akhil Mathew or not. Haridasan said money was given on the belief that it was him. The police suspect that Akhil Sajeev committed the fraud after showing someone else.
The police understood that Haridasan had not met Akhil Mathew after examining the phone. The police have given a letter to check the CCTV in the secretariat. The office of the health minister is in Secretariat Annexe II. The public administration department said 100 CCTVs are installed in this building.
